The Township of Stookey gives the Stookey Standout award to St. Matthew United Methodist Church. This June, the Town of Stookey recognizes St. Matthew United Methodist Church for its support of the community.

As shared on its Facebook page, the Town of Stookey acknowledges the efforts of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in helping make this town a great community.

The church was informed of the recognition through a letter sent by Mark P. Bagby, Stookey Township Supervisor. The town awards the church with the Stookey Standout recognition.

This award is given to St. Matthew United Methodist Church for its essential role in the Ogles Neighborhood Watch. Moreover, this award appreciates the church’s welcome in allowing the group to utilize its facilities for events.

St. Matthew United Methodist Church continuously hosts the Blessing Box on its church grounds. Additionally, it remains very involved in the issues concerning the neighborhood and events.

The Township of Stookey extends its gratitude to St. Matthew United Methodist Church. It invites the church to its next board meeting for recognition at a Stookey Standout.

This meeting will be on July 5 at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall, 313 Eiler Rd. Belleville.

About St. Matthew United Methodist Church

As per its website, this faith community has been in Belleville, Illinois, since 1955. Since its establishment, the church has experienced a great deal of growth and expansion over the years.

Its current 1400-seat sanctuary was initially built in 1991. Then, the congregation rebuilt it in 1994 after a fire destroyed the sanctuary.

The belief of this church is summed up by the Four Great Emphases of United Methodism; God’s love includes everyone (Universal Atonement), Salvation by Faith, Witness of the Spirit, and A life dominated by Perfect Love is the Goal of Christian Experience (Perfect Love).

Volunteers make this ministry run smoothly every year.

As stated on the church’s website, it is a thriving ministry with exciting performances and times of fellowship around every corner. The puppeteers had performed around the country, with most of its performances held locally.
