Story behind The Journey Church of St. Louis
According to their official website, Darrin Patrick's heart was planted with a vision for a church that would reach out to unlikely individuals with the truth of the gospel and the love of Jesus. Darrin and Amie packed their belongings in Kansas City and moved to South St. Louis with two other couples in June 2001 to start a church in his basement.
As the church grew, The Journey Tower Grove in the heart of South St. Louis opened its doors in 2005. Several organizations, including Mission St. Louis, The Luminary Center for the Arts, and Karis House, were established and headquartered there during the following few years.
Also mentioned on the same website that by God's grace, a lengthy period without a Senior Pastor, followed by a worldwide epidemic, had created space for many tough and necessary dialogues among leaders concerning patterns and structures that had led to organizational unhealth.
Referring to the same website, the mountains and valleys over the last two decades have reminded them of God's faithfulness in the midst of their shortcomings and mistakes. What began as a small group of people in a South City basement has grown into a family of many churches across the St. Louis region that is seeking to build a diverse community centered on Jesus Christ, wholly enjoying his grace, faithfully embodying his love for one another, and boldly engaging their culture with His truth, from their neighborhoods to the nations.
