Church of the Resurrection Gala

On Saturday, Nov. 6, the Church of the Resurrection in Houston will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

As a way of celebration, the local church invited every parishioner to attend their gala for an admission ticket worth $100 each person. For groups, the per 8-person table price is worth $800.

According to its official website, the Gala Anniversary will occur at 915 Zoe St. Houston, TX. It is located on the east side of Houston, serving the Denver Harbor community.

As explained, the church was first established on Thanksgiving day, Nov. 25, 1920. Since then, the Denver Harbor community has treated the church with respect and generous donations, as per its website.

History of Church of the Resurrection

Throughout the years, the Church of the Resurrection has suffered from various incidents in past.

About six years after it was first founded, the church reportedly had a massive fire that completely destroyed its frame structure.

Instead of stopping its services, Bishop Byrne, founder of the Church of the Resurrection, built a second smaller church.

As explained, "the building wasn't as large or elegant as before, but it served its purpose."

More than a decade after that incident, the Resurrection was slowly rebuilt its name in the community. The congregation reportedly increased over time, then became the "beautiful Church we all know."

In a report from Click2Houston, a 97-year-old parishioner of the Resurrection, Adelfa Parrish, told her story about the church.

She said that she has been attending the same church for nearly 70 years now. She also shared that her kids also used to attend the services at Resurrection along with her.

"You got to teach your children your religion before anything, so they can become good citizens. Otherwise, they wouldn't be what they are now," said Parrish.

The long-time parishioner shared that Resurrection church gives her a 'different feeling' whenever she prays inside. Thus, she continuously attends services and prays for its establishment.

Furthermore, the report also told that Parrish already considered the church as her second home.

Father Oscar Debon, the current priest of Resurrection for five years now, explained that the Hispanic community made the church into what it is today.

The priest said that the richness of culture in their church is one of the admirable things about the church.

He also told the report that he considered the church as a "very special place."
