Bishop Harper's social media post, the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church's media dinner for its new album attracted 'some of Houston's gospel radio legends.' The music album is now out on Apple Music.

Harper said that the press event featured Pastor Marcus D. Cosby, Minister Leon Lewis, and other contributors to the album.

The church said on its Facebook page that the album is "music BY the church FOR the church."

It added that it was a product of the global pandemic and made by the church from traditional gospel choir music and the confirmation of Jesus Christ.

About Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church

According to Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church's website, the church has a mission to be a 'worshiping, witnessing and welcoming congregation with a commitment to excellence in praising God through Christ.'

It added that it is a church that 'values Christian education, maturation in faith, and the promotion of peace and justice.'

The church said it began in March 1962 with 13 pioneer worshippers.

The pioneers came together at the Texas Southern University's Baptist Student Union lounge with Founding Pastor Emeritus Rev. William A. Lawson. Pastor Lawson would then proceed to lead the church for over four decades.

During his time, the church would grow to a church with more than 12,000 members, expanding its facilities to create a ministry complex that caters to the congregation.

According to the church, Reverend Lawson represented the Trinitarian reality as the leader of the church, giving the church a commitment to the service of God and the community that the church serves.

Beliefs of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church

The church's website said Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church believes in the 'all-powerful, all-knowing Creator-God.'

The church says that God anticipated the corruption and damage humans would face and set forth to save humanity.

For this, God sent his message through the prophets, as well as his own Son, who died and was resurrected for the salvation of humanity.

The church added that because of all this, God has now made the believers his stewards that God uses for conversion and civic justice.

Further, this stewardship is a privilege given by God so that man can participate in the redemption of the human race and the universe.

About Rev. Marcus D. Cosby

According to the church, the Rev. Dr. Marcus D. Cosby serves as the current senior pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.

He first served as the church's Associate Pastor for six years before Pastor Lawson passed down the responsibilities to him in 2004.

The church chose Pastor Cosby through election as the committee's sole candidate.

Reverend Cosby holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion and English from Fisk University. He also has a Master of Divinity Degree in Homiletics and Christian Education from the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center.

Further, he holds a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Homiletics from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary.
