MBU’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program

According to the report on their official website, at their December regular meeting, the Missouri State Board of Nursing overwhelmingly accepted MBU's request to provide an ABSN. More precisely, the permission authorizes MBU to launch a cohort of 24 students this summer.

In the same report, as mentioned by Dr. Keith Ross, president of Missouri Baptist University, the Missouri Baptist University School of Nursing has played a key role in the St. Louis region and worldwide since its establishment via the convergence of creative preparation and Christian values.

More information in the same article states that the new ABSN will enable MBU to enhance this noble purpose while also assisting in addressing serious nurse shortages both locally and nationally.

As per the same article, given the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic and a large number of expected retirement in Missouri, the establishment of MBU's ABSN program comes at a time when there is a strong need for registered nurses with a BSN.

It is also mentioned in the same article that Registered Nursing (RN) is among the top occupations in terms of job growth through 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Projections 2014-2024.

Also stated in the same article from the same source that the RN workforce is predicted to rise by 439,300, or 16%, from 2.7 million in 2014 to 3.2 million in 2024.

According to the Bureau, as per the same article, there will be a need for 649,100 replacement nurses in the workforce by 2024, increasing the total number of job opportunities for nurses owing to growth and replacement to more than one million.

Referring to the same article, ABSN courses are taught in MBU's cutting-edge School of Nursing, which is housed in the Walker Medical Building, which is located next to MBU's main campus.

Also mentioned in the same article is that an 8,000-plus square-foot building has been turned into an innovative learning environment complete with a simulation lab, technology-equipped training classrooms, and community gathering places.

Students interested in MBU's ABSN program should contact Meghan Neuner, MBU Enrollment Counselor, through email.
