One Family Church celebrates AAAS fellowship of member Dr. Swamidass

One Family Church congratulated its member Dr. Joshua Swamidass for being named a fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

The church’s Facebook page posted greeted the doctor on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Contributions of Dr. Swamidass

The Washington University School of Medicine website revealed that Swamidass was among the 505 new fellows recognized by the AAAS. They explained that it is the world’s biggest general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals. 

According to the website, they honored Swamidass’ work as he applied machine learning to chemical biology and medicine. They added that he concentrates on drug discovery and how drugs are cultivated in the body.

In addition, the AAAS honors Swamidass for his excellent public outreach advocating an understanding of science among communities of believers, as further posted on the website. 

Moreover, the website revealed that he improved artificial intelligence algorithms to study how drugs are processed in the body. They explained that the method significantly affects medicines' security, efficacy, and dose. 

Besides, they noted that he authored the book, The Genealogical Adam and Eve in 2019. They explained that he discussed how people could understand human evolution and race and racism within the communities of believers. 

As further explained, his book suggested reading the biblical narrative of Adam and Eve, which is related to evolutionary science. Besides, it explains scientific concerns with the polygenesis theory.

About Swamidass

On the same website, they pointed out that Swamidass works as the pathology and immunology associate professor at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. 

They added that he was also an adviser for the exhibit “Scripture and Science: Our Universe, Ourselves, Our Place.” This exhibit was held at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. 

Furthermore, they explained that the exhibit runs through January 2024, wherein the people could discover the Bible’s role in the historical relationship between science and religion. 

According to the website, Swamidass also works as an associate professor of biomedical engineering and computer science and engineering at the university’s McKelvey School of Engineering. 

More importantly, they noted that he graduated with bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from the University of California, Irvine. Then, in 2010 he became a part of the School of Medicine faculty, as stated on the website.
